From legendary NYC comedy site Brooklyn Vegan: Thank God for Hy Bender’s religiously updated show bible Best New York Comedy (and HyReviews.com). He is literally the only person in NYC providing daily summaries of what’s happening comedy-wise. It must be exhausting keeping that monster of a website alive. It is your daily comedy itinerary and it scares me how on top of his shit this guy is.
I’m Hy Bender, an author with over 25 years of publishing experience. I’ve written 16 books under my own name, including five Dummies books, a Complete Idiot’s Guide, and an interview book with Neil Gaiman about comic books. I’ve also written several books as a ghostwriter, two of which placed on The New York Times Bestseller list, and one of which reached #16 on Amazon.com.
In addition, I’ve done theatre reviews for The New York Times Arts & Leisure section; business writing for such organizations as Morgan Stanley, Reuters, and NYMEX; and humor articles for periodicals ranging from American Film to Advertising Age, and from Spy to Mad Magazine.
I love comedy, and typically see over 200 comedic stage shows a year. This blog, which is updated frequently, provides an at-a-glance list of my picks for the best live comedy playing in New York City. Most of the shows are free-$15.
Shows are listed in (roughly) chronological order.
To learn more about any show, please click the title of the show.
To buy tickets, click either the show’s title or its price.
For details about a show’s location, please click the name of its venue.

To see my NYC comedy picks for any previous date (back through October 2008, when this blog began), locate and click the date you’re after using the calendar on the right.
I run this BestNewYorkComedy.com blog and the HyReviews.com site simply because I love comedy. However, I also run two for-profit services.
When you need a winning book proposal, world class editor, or a bestselling ghostwriter, please visit BookProposal.net.
And when you need a movie script or TV pilot analyzed, rewritten, or ghostwritten, please visit HyOnYourScript.com.
The best way to keep up with this blog is to subscribe to it. Once you sign up (which is entirely free), you’ll receive an email every time it’s updated.
Please feel encouraged to reach out to tell me about comedy shows, provide feedback on my cross-genre short story anthology Ghosts on Drugs, hire me, or for any other reason by emailing me at email@example.com.
