It’s earned this slot because its cast is one of the finest in comedy, with each performer strong enough for potential stardom. As for its writers, they sizzle when at their best; but at the moment I’d call their newest show, offering the benefit of the doubt, “a work in progress.” The “this show is about you” gimmick has zero resonance—it’s really not about you, or about anyone else; and the mix between improv and sketch is so confusing that I wasn’t sure whether a number of scenes were mediocre improv or flat-out bad scripting. Still, the cast is so strong—Fran Gillespie, John Murray, Brandon Scott Jones, Molly Lloyd, D’Arcy Carden, and Johnathan Fernandez—that you’ll have a fun time regardless. (Honestly, the scary faces Molly Lloyd makes are worth the trip all by themselves…) Directed by ace improvisor Ryan Karels—who I’m expecting to make this show increasingly fine as it goes along: Stone Cold Fox: You Probably Think This Show Is About You
